Some work operations can be hazardous.  Some can be complex.  A few are both hazardous and complex.  In such circumstances it makes sense to produce a written Method Statement (or Safe Method of Work) which sets out exactly how the operation should be performed.

In the construction industry, it is a standard requirement to produce Method Statements before a contract is awarded.  The same applies if your organisation is hoping to acquire health and safety accreditations such as CHAS or SafeContractor etc.
