'Going to work is generally good for us, but only if our health, safety and welfare are protected. Preventing ill health because of work-related stress is part of creating a good working environment for your employees.'

Health and Safety Executive

People get confused about the difference between pressure and stress. We all experience pressure regularly - it can motivate us to perform at our best. It is when we experience too much pressure and feel unable to cope that stress can result.

Dealing with stress is more than a tick-box exercise to satisfy legislative requiremnts. All areas of business life can be affected badly by stress, so seeking to elimante the sources of these ills across an entire business or organisation (or even a discreet part of it) can have a noticeable effect for good. It can result in:

    ·  enhanced productivity
    ·  greater creativity
    ·  improved morale
    ·  retention of valued staff
    ·  reduced turnover of staff with associated reduction in costs for recruitemnt
    ·  reduced absenteeism and sickness
    ·  reduction in grievances
    ·  reduction in litigation or tribunal claims
    ·  management time freed up as there are fewer 'issues' to deal with
    ·  improved reputation
    ·  happier customers

What business owner doesnt want that?

We can check to see if you have already effectively undertaken a suitable and sufficient risk assessment for stress.  If you have not done so, or only partially done so, we can help you to undertake it as necessary to ensure that the required areas are properly assessed. This will reveal whether or not particular issues need to be addressed and the degree of intervention needed to improve your business for the good.  We can also help you develop and implement key interventions.

In one sense, stress and physical hazards are the same.  For both issues, employers are criminally liable for failing to carry out suitable and sufficient risk assessments under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations.
